A Barnwell man has died a week after he was hospitalized for burns he received in a house fire.
John Henry Carter suffered burns from a fire that destroyed his Saint John Road home on April 16.
He was transported to Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga. where he died on April 24, according to nephew Russ Perry.
Carter grew up in Barnwell and graduated from Butler High School in 1962. After graduation, he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he got married and raised his three children.
He was a “master” truck driver and also worked at Terrace Heights Hospital in the dietary department for several years.
After retiring, he moved back to South Carolina to become a caregiver for his parents, according to his obituary.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1 at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Barnwell.
