Corder's Creative Corner: Fantasy world 'Glomora' coming to life in book

Posted

A few weeks ago, I let my readers know that I was planning to release my first book in late August or early September. I have connected with an editor to have the novelette undergo developmental, copy, and line edits which I hope will be completed by late July or early August. After these edits are complete, I can focus on formatting the book and having a book cover made.

In the meantime, I want to share more about the world where my story takes place. It’s a fantasy setting on the continent of Glomora. The continent, along with the rest of the world, was created by the god Luoja (LOO—OI—YUH). He also created lesser gods to dwell in the world, such as the goddess of the wilds and forests, Kooja (COO—YUH), and the fire and sun god, Her’Kulta (HER—CULT—UH). These gods are lesser beings that are subservient to Luoja, despite their incredible power.

On Glomora are different nations and races. There are many human kingdoms based on different historical contexts of the real world. There is the southern nation of Teclar (TECH-LAR) where its people have dark skin and its architecture and culture are reminiscent of Ancient Greece. To the far north is Oljon (OL—YON), inhabited by Viking-like tribes who live in simple buildings. In the mountains spread about the continent are clans of dwarves, though they are not as numerous as humans are.

Aside from humans and dwarves are the elves, or the únae (OO—NAY), of which there are three subraces: the valúnae (light elves), shadúnae (dark elves), and hurunaé (wild elves). These elves dwell in different courts spread across the continent and are the Sun Court, the Moon Court, and the Wild Court.

Aside from the domains of elves, dwarves, and humans, there are also the dark kingdoms of the vampires. The vampires hold political as well as supernatural power and are a huge piece of the main narrative of my world. Of the vampires, Draco Victus who reigns in Castle Spiderhollow, is one of the most powerful, helping to pull the strings of a war that threatens to destroy the kingdoms of Glomora. His part in my story will be made more clear in various books that are to come.

There are many other things to reveal about Glomora and what I have disclosed here is only the start. More will be revealed in my upcoming book.
