BARNWELL - Jerry Lee Mack, age 69, affectionately known as “Pretty Man”, was born on May 24, 1955 in Bamberg, South Carolina to the late Dave Mack Sr. and the late Lou Ella Odom Mack. He departed this life on July 21, 2024 at his residence in Barnwell, South Carolina.

He was educated in the public schools of Barnwell County. At an early age, he joined New Home Missionary Baptist Church in Barnwell.

At the age of 21, he started his career as an international truck driver. In 2023, after 47 years of driving, he retired.

Music was his passion and he loved playing his guitar. He started the Jerry Mack and the Blues Brothers and later Jerry Mack and the Joy Gospel Singers. His music has been enjoyed by everyone for many years.

He was preceded in death by both parents; one son, Levern Workman; one brother, Lugene Mack; two sisters: Doris Tooks and Mildred Harris. He leaves to cherish his fond memories, a loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Geneva Mack of the home; six children: Alfred (Kayla) Tooks, Jerrica Mack, Sophia Mack, Angel Ashley, Chasity Ashley and Devanta Ashley, all of Barnwell, S.C.; a special son, Hanspert “Buster” Akins; two brothers: Dave (Clara) Mack and Leon (Adelle) Mack, both of Barnwell, S.C.; two sisters: Elizabeth Johnson of Blackville, S.C. and Kitty Mack of Barnwell, S.C.; seven granddaughters, eleven grandsons and one great-grandchild, all of Barnwell, S.C.; eight sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; special friends: George Brown, Vivian Workman, Johnette Tims, Mae Helen Hunter, and Barbara Rice; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and sympathizing friends. Jerry will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.

Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Rosemary Baptist Church in Barnwell with Reverend Bennie Wiggins Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was held at Community Funeral Home of Barnwell (361 Jackson Street, Barnwell) on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 3-7 p.m.
