I was greatly saddened to learn of the death of Margie Hill Foy, and I am sure most people have fond memories of her. She was such a kind soul, and I think my friend Owais described her and her family best when referred to them as “absolutely wonderful, caring people.”
Miss Margie was not actually related to me as far as I know, but our families were connected in several ways. I remember laughing when I heard the tale of her elderly cousin Eunice driving from Columbia to Barnwell, and she had to get out of her car to read the sign.
I first met Miss Margie in the days before Find-a-grave at Seven Pines Baptist Cemetery in Snelling as she was tending her family graves, and I was scouring cemeteries trying to find dead relatives. She was descended from Job Hill who moved from Pennsylvania to Edgefield County, and his descendants migrated to the area around Snelling.
I can only say Barnwell County is not quite as good of a place without Miss Margie.
