Letter to the hit and run driver of Jasmine "Jazz" Brown

Posted

Dear Driver,

It has been 20 years since the tragic day of April 21, 2005, when a young and vibrant 13-year-old girl named Jasmine "Jazz" Brown was taken from us in a hit-and-run accident. Despite the passage of time, the pain and loss felt by her family, friends, and community remain profound and affecting. Jasmine had her entire life ahead of her, filled with dreams and potential, which were unjustly taken away in a momentary act of recklessness.

We have waited two decades for closure and answers that have yet to come. The decision you made not to stop and offer help or take responsibility for your actions has left a lingering wound in many hearts. While time has moved on, for those who loved Jasmine, it often feels as if the world remains frozen on that day, April 21, 2005.

If you are reading this, we hope you will find it in your heart to come forward, not just for Jasmine but for your own peace of mind. It is never too late to make amends and bring a semblance of closure to a family that has suffered immensely. We hold onto the hope that accountability might bring some relief and justice for Jasmine's short yet impactful life.

As we remember Jasmine, her infectious laughter, her kindness, and her unfulfilled potential, we also urge you to reflect on the choices made that day and how they have resonated through the years. If you know anything about the accident, please consider reaching out to the authorities. Even the smallest piece of information could help in finally providing justice for Jasmine.

As the anniversary of this tragedy passes again, we hope that the weight of conscience will move you to take responsibility for the past. Let this letter be a reminder that Jasmine is not forgotten, and those who love her continue to seek closure and justice on behalf of her mother Tabitha who was killed February 26, 2011 in a head-on collision.

With hope for resolution,
Erica Wilson
