The 2024 football season brought much success to Barnwell County’s four teams - the Barnwell Warhorses, Blackville-Hilda Hawks, Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders, and Williston-Elko Blue Devils. For the first time in a long time, all four teams made it to the first round of the playoffs. The Barnwell Warhorses advanced the furthest and ended the season as runners-up at the AA State Championship.
Cheerleaders across the county train every year to perform at competitions and games.
Baseball and softball season will soon be in full swing for 2025, but here are a few photos from the 2024 season. Some highlights from 2024 included Barnwell High School’s star softball player, Jaidyn Devore, competing in the 2024 Minority Prospects Softball All-American Game in Alabama. the JDA Lady Raiders softball team winning the SCISA A State Championship, and the Barnwell Ponytails team winning the World Series softball championship.
Local basketball teams saw success on the courts in 2024. Williston-Elko’s Randy Robinson Jr. was invited to participate in the Chris Paul’s 12th Annual CP3 Rising Stars National Camp in Winston-Salem, N.C. August 23-25, 2024. This is an invitation-only camp for elite level players.
Wrestling continues to be a growing sport in Barnwell County.
