The Barnwell Warhorse Track and Field teams competed at the Region 6-AA Region Championships last Wednesday, May 1. Woodland High School served as the host school for the Region meet, that is a competition for both team titles and for individuals. Individual athletes could qualify for the Lower State Championships that will also be held at Woodland High School this Saturday, May 11.

The Warhorses had seven athletes qualify for Lower State. Madeline Brown qualified for Lower State in the 400-meter dash. Kalieh Caldwell qualified in the long jump. Logan Foskey and Alexis Youmans both qualified for Lower State in the discus. Demajah Devoe and Kahzeer Wesley each qualified for Lower State in the long jump.

The most impressive results for the Warhorses came from T’avian Johnson who qualified in not just one or two events, but qualified in three events for Lower State. Johnson will represent the Horses in the 100m, 200m, and long jump events.

Barnwell head coach Thomas Davis was asked about the Warhorses’ performance and said, “It was great to see the athletes compete and receive their desired results this past week at the Region Championships. The motto holds true that you get out what you put into your work. Each one of them have done a great job of maximizing their time, energy, and effort in order to reach this great milestone during this shortened season.”

The Lower State Championships will start at 11 a.m. at Woodland High School. Come out this Saturday, May 11 and cheer on your favorite Warhorse track and field athletes as they try to earn a spot at the State Championships. Good luck, Warhorses!
