College Notes: Locals earn academic excellence in colleges, universities

College of Charleston announces President’s List & Dean’s List for fall 2023

CHARLESTON – College of Charleston congratulates more than 3,500 students who were named to the President’s List and the Dean’s List for Fall 2023.

Reid Barker of Barnwell was named to the President’s List (Highly Distinguished). Barker is majoring in Biochemistry.

Cadence Brown of Wil­lis­ton was named to the President’s List (Highly Dis­tinguished). Brown is majoring in Theatre.

Jireh Baines of Barnwell was named to the President’s List (Highly Distinguished). Baines is majoring in Middle Grades Education.

Hayden Horton of Barn­well was named to the Dean’s List (Distinguished). Horton is majoring in Dance and Business Administration.

To qualify for the President’s List (Highly Dis­ting­uished), students must earn a GPA of 3.800 or higher and complete a minimum of 12 semester hours.

To qualify for Dean’s List (Distinguished), students must earn a GPA of 3.500 or higher and complete a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Kimberly Shahan Inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi

BATON ROUGE, LA – Kimberly Shahan of Barn­well, South Carolina, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Shahan was initiated at Augusta University.

Shahan is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
