Spotlight on the Barnwell County Ministerial Coalition

Posted

In Barnwell County, help often comes through quiet acts of faith, compassion, and service. One of the organizations consistently living this out is the Barnwell County Ministerial Coalition—a network of local churches working together to serve our community in tangible and meaningful ways.

The Coalition truly serves as the hands and feet of Jesus, meeting people at their point of need. Through benevolence funds, they assist individuals and families facing unexpected hardship by helping cover emergency motel stays, electric bills, water bills, and other urgent necessities. These moments of help often come during some of life’s most stressful seasons, offering not only financial relief but also compassion, dignity, and hope.

Beyond emergency assistance, the Coalition is committed to ongoing service. Members faithfully serve monthly at the Barnwell Soup Kitchen, ensuring neighbors have access to a warm meal and a welcoming presence. This regular service reflects their belief that ministry happens not only inside church walls, but around shared tables and everyday conversations.

The Coalition also brings the community together through powerful times of worship and prayer. Annual Lenten Services will begin February 18, rotating among local churches for the seven weeks of Lent. Each gathering includes lunch and a message, and all members of the community are invited to attend, regardless of church affiliation.

In addition, the Coalition hosts the National Day of Prayer each year, providing a dedicated time for the community to unite in prayer. This year’s observance will take place on May 7 on the Circle, where residents are invited to pray for local, state, and federal leaders, schools, families, and the overall well-being of our community.

During the Christmas season, the Coalition also helps anchor a beloved local tradition by sharing the Christmas story message at the City of Barnwell Christmas Tree Lighting each year, bringing focus, meaning, and hope to a joyful community celebration.

Through benevolence, service, prayer, and presence, the Barnwell County Ministerial Coalition continues to quietly strengthen our community. Their work is a reminder that when churches come together with a shared mission, lives are touched and burdens are lightened.
