BLACKVILLE - Funeral services for Mr. Floyd Taylor were held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Rosemary Baptist Church, Barnwell, S.C.

Mr. Floyd Taylor, age 79, was born on April 16, 1945, in Blackville, South Carolina, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Angie Lee Taylor. On Friday, October 18, 2024, he peacefully departed this life and entered into eternal rest in Blackville, South Carolina.

Affectionately known as “Uncle Lonkey,” Floyd received his education at Kelly Edwards High School in Williston, South Carolina, where he excelled as an accomplished football player. His teammates and friends fondly nicknamed him “Tippy-Toe Taylor” due to his swift and skillful ability to maneuver down the field, often "tip-toeing" his way into the end zone.

Floyd’s professional career was marked by dedication and hard work. He spent many years at Talley Corbett Box Company in Springfield, S.C., before later pursuing a career as a cement finisher. He eventually retired from A.M. Tuck Construction Company in Columbia, South Carolina.

After high school, Floyd ventured north to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he lived and worked for several years. Upon returning to South Carolina for a brief visit, a chance meeting at a high school basketball game led him to the love of his life, the late Mrs. Shirley Elaine Taylor. The two met when Floyd, sitting above her, accidentally spilled his drink on Shirley, sparking a conversation that would lead to a lifelong partnership. They were united in marriage on June 1, 1971, and spent 46 wonderful years together until her passing on October 17, 2017. From their union, they were blessed with one daughter, Ms. Vanessa Taylor Childs. Floyd was a devoted husband and a loving father who cherished his family deeply.

As man of faith, Floyd was a long-standing member of Rosemary Baptist Church in Barnwell, South Carolina. He enjoyed attending Sunday services, worshiping, and fellowshipping with his family and church friends. He had a deep appreciation for "good gospel music" and often expressed how much he loved hearing the choir sing, just as much as he enjoyed the pastor’s sermons.

Floyd was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Taylor; his parents, Henry and Angie Lee Taylor; his mother-in-law, Lela Minus; three sisters, Louise Boardley, Artis Bryant, and Kary Lee Dowling; and five brothers, Johnny Taylor, Willie Lee Taylor, Henry Taylor Jr., James Taylor, and David Taylor.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Vanessa Taylor Childs of Barnwell, S.C.; three granddaughters, Erika Childs of North Augusta, S.C., Adrienne Childs of Statesboro, GA, and Kimberly Childs of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Jessie Matheney of Blackville, S.C., and Shirley Mae Taylor of Charleston, S.C.; and one brother, Wallace Taylor of Blackville, S.C. He is also survived by three brothers-in-law, Albert Sept of Blackville, S.C., LeKeith Minus of Blackville, S.C., and Hezekiah Jenkins of Blackville, S.C.; three sisters-in-law, Sandra Sept of Blackville, S.C., Mary Jenkins of Blackville, S.C., and Brenda Sept of Blackville, S.C.; and a host of sorrowing cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and very dear friends who will miss him dearly.
