Imagine ending your day, exhausted from work or school, only to realize you have no bed to sleep in. For many children in Barnwell County, this is a heartbreaking reality.
Across our community, children are sleeping on floors, couches, or sharing crowded spaces—not because they want to, but because they have no other option. A good night's sleep is critical for a child’s health, development, and ability to focus in school. That's why the Barnwell County YMCA’s ‘A Place to Dream’ program is working to change this reality—one bed at a time.
Since 2020, A Place to Dream has provided 215 beds to children in need, ensuring they have a safe and comfortable place to sleep. But many more children are still waiting for a bed of their own. The cost to provide one complete bed—including a frame, mattress, bedding, and a pillow—is approximately $388.
To raise awareness and funds, the YMCA is launching the Dream On Challenge on March 15. This powerful initiative encourages community members to spend one night sleeping on the floor, reflecting on the struggles that many children face every night. Participation in the challenge is free, but individuals are encouraged to make a donation to A Place to Dream to make a real impact in a child's life.
By supporting this program, you’re giving more than just a bed—you’re giving a child a sense of security, improved health, and a chance to succeed. Your donation can change a life.
