‘Got to have faith’: Barnwell woman seeks help after losing home to fire

Posted

A Barnwell woman is seeking help with temporary housing as she rebuilds after a house fire.

On January 27, Julie Moulder was in the hospital when she got the news that her house was on fire. Upon being released a few days later, she was faced with the reality of being homeless.

“She now has nowhere to come home to. The entire home, along with all of her belongings, is destroyed,” said daughter Cara Moulder in a GoFundMe post to raise money for her mother.

While the Red Cross and a caretaking company funded the first two weeks in a hotel, those paid hotel nights will soon run out. Julie is seeking help with temporary housing and a new rental house.

“We hope to get her into a new place ASAP as well as get her some hygiene and household items,” said Cara in the GoFundMe post. “Anything at all would help. Even prayers.”

In addition to losing all of her possessions, Julie’s four pets also perished in the fire. The pets originally belonged to her Rachel and son-in-law who died in a wreck a couple years ago.

“I’ve experienced a lot of loss,” said Julie, who asks for prayers. “I’ve got to have faith.”

She said she is grateful to her neighbors and everyone else who helped her after the fire.

“This community has been great,” said Julie.

Originally from Greenville, Julie has lived in Barnwell for about 20 years, including the past 10 years in the home on Hagood Avenue that burned.
