WILLISTON - Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Sanders Champy, 86, of Williston, S.C. passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at her home. Born in Bamberg, S.C., she was the daughter of Harry Sanders and Mary Black Sanders. She was happily married to the love of her life, John Champy Sr., for 57 years.

Jackie, more affectionally known as Mimi by her family, was a Godly woman who served the Lord in every aspect of her life. She was a member of the Williston United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an avid gardener who would spend countless hours tending her garden and feeding the many birds that visited her yard. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was famous for her grits, okra rice, and lemon bars. She enjoyed traveling and went on many trips with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, John C. Champy Jr. (Sheryl) of North Augusta, S.C., and Francis Alan Champy (Melissa) of Snelling, S.C.; a daughter, Sharon Gleaton (Wayne) of Williston, S.C.; her grandchildren, Brittany (Josh) Givens, Brent (Emily) Champy, Michael (Kimberly) Gainey, Sara (John) Melton, Holly (Trent) Whitson, Kelly (Nick) Guzman, Chad Gleaton, Nicholas (Lauren) Champy and Chadwick (Audrey) Champy; seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Sanders; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Harry Sanders and Mary Black Sanders, and her husband John, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Francis Sanders and Billy Sanders.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2025 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, S.C. with the Reverends Dean Deer and Melissa Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Williston Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be her grandsons. 

Memorial contributions may be given in honor of Mrs. Champy to The Gideons International (P.O. 86, Williston, S.C. 29853) or Williston United Methodist Church (6030 Springfield Rd., Williston, S.C. 29853).

The family would like to offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to the amazing Janie Mae White and Deborah Dyches for their devotion to Mimi’s care in the last months. The family would also like to thank Birtha Riley and the McLeod Home Care and the nurses and staff with Trinity Hospice Care.
