Serving Barnwell County and its neighbors since 1852
JJ's Learning Academy is celebrating nearly five years of serving students and families in Barnwell County while preparing for another busy school year with tutoring services and a summer reading camp.
Founded to provide local academic support, the tutoring business has worked to help students improve their performance in the classroom while building confidence and developing skills for long-term success.
According to the academy, students who have participated in its tutoring programs have seen an average increase of 36 points on standardized tests, along with improvements of more than 40 points in both math and English iReady assessments. In addition to academic gains, the program emphasizes helping students build confidence and strengthen their ability to understand challenging concepts.
One parent praised the program's impact on her child.
"We've had an amazing experience with the tutoring program," the parent said. "My son has increased his attention span significantly, and the tutors have helped him explore new ways of thinking and breaking concepts down in a way he can better understand. The tutors are patient, supportive, and truly amazing. We're very grateful for all their help and dedication."
This summer, JJ's Learning Academy has partnered with the Friends of the Library to host a reading camp at the Barnwell County Public Library. The camp will be held July 6-10 from noon to 4 p.m. and is designed to help students strengthen their reading skills before returning to school while encouraging continued learning throughout the summer.
Students interested in participating must complete an assessment before enrolling. Registration opportunities will be available July 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at The Well and July 2 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Barnwell County Public Library. Academy representatives encourage families to register soon, noting that available spots are filling quickly.
Families can also register and stay informed about upcoming programs through JJ's Learning Academy's Facebook page. For additional information about tutoring services or the summer enrichment program, contact the academy at study@jjslearningacademy.com or 803-661-0875.
