Letter: Resident grateful for local newspaper

Posted

Dear Editor,

I recently watched a segment of Sunday Morning featuring hometown newspapers and their value. One of the papers linked to this article was the Barnwell People-Sentinel.

You may not think of what’s behind the births, deaths, sports, and other items of interest in the paper, but it is intrinsic to our community. How else would the public find out about the investigations into our local organizations, businesses, citizens, and government? News isn’t always good but we need to know it all. Certainly, the TV news doesn’t delve into these questions for us. It’s only our newspaper that reveals the whole story. I applaud the staff of the Sentinel for uncovering the news we may not know about but what we need to know about to be engaged citizens of our area.

I have my share of yellowed articles and pictures from the Sentinel when my sons were growing up in our community. To me they are priceless; back then mostly black and white photos of school and sports events of note.

Thank you staff of The-People Sentinel for the enjoyment of our accomplishments, the opportunity to share life events, the pursuit of truth and the courage to make The People-Sentinel a newspaper to look to for all the news.

Sincerely,

Paulette Rooney,

Barnwell
