BARNWELL - Robert Bethune Pagett, lovingly known as Bobby, with his bright blue eyes and warm smile, entered into eternal rest at the age of 89 on November 8, 2024, with his cherished wife, Mary Jane, by his side.
Born in Columbia, S.C., on Valentine’s Day in 1935, Bobby moved to Barnwell at a young age, where he would reside for the remainder of his life. He dedicated an impressive 41 years to his career at the Savannah River Site, earning immense respect from his colleagues until his retirement in 1995.
In 1990, he met the love of his life, Mary Jane Boleman, and together they crafted beautiful memories throughout their 32 years of marriage. Bobby was a loving and devoted husband to Mary Jane, as well as a caring patriarch for their amazing family, seizing every opportunity to cherish quality time with them.
Until his final day, Bobby found joy in attending church, spending quality time with family and friends, playfully teasing his loved ones, dining out, savoring boiled peanuts and oysters, and spoiling his beloved dogs. He held his family dear to his heart, prayed for them daily, and maintained a profound faith in the Lord above all else. A dedicated member of The Church of Holy Apostles, Bobby was a lifelong participant and a cherished figure in the Barnwell community, beloved by many. He had a remarkable ability to make friends; he truly never met a stranger.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Boleman Pagett; son, Lance Pagett (Alison); daughter, Marbea Nix (Craig); stepson, Allen Henderson (Casie); stepdaughter, Sonya Ingram (Kevin); and grandchildren Logan, Abigail, Meredith, Elliott, Max, Justin (Chesna), and Landon. He is also survived by two half-brothers, James and Eddie Pagett; numerous in-laws; and many family members that he loved so dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Walton Pagett and Mary Patterson Pagett; sister, Mary Pat Roberts; son, Robert Pagett Jr.; grandson, Robert Pagett III; and a half sister, Becky.
Bobby’s warmth and kindness, along with the gentle squeeze of his hand, left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His legacy of love and faith will forever inspire those who knew him. His gentle spirit and steadfast commitment to his church, family, and friends will be cherished in the hearts of many. As we gather to celebrate his life, we are reminded of the joy he brought to everyone, the love and laughter we experienced with him, and the significant impact he made on our lives. May his memory serve as a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
