Warhorse volleyball win five straight

Posted

The Barnwell Warhorse volleyball team played the visiting Hampton County Hurricanes in a Region 5-AA contest last Thursday, October 3. Barnwell swept the match and earned a 3-0 victory and more importantly, another region win.

With the win, Barnwell moves to 9-3 for the season and 5-1 in region play. The win marked the fifth straight win for the Warhorses.

Rilee Sandifer hit 10 serves in play and Rebecca Richardson had 9 serves in play to lead the team. Rilee had 4 aces and Ashley Barrett and Brooklyn Gordon led the way with 5 aces each. Tiera Arnold and Rilee Sandifer had 3 kills each during the match. Ashley Barrett led the Horses with 5 assists.

As the season draws to a close, every region match becomes more and more important. A single win or loss could cement a playoff spot for a team or remove them from the playoff scenario. Barnwell is currently 5-1 in Region 5-AA and will likely get the number 2 seed for the region. With three games remaining, the Horses still have some important challenges ahead.

Barnwell will face Lake Marion on Monday, October 14 in Barnwell and then travel on Tuesday, October 15 to face Whale Branch. The first Lake Marion match was closer than the 3-0 overall score might appear. The 3-1 win over Whale Branch earlier this season saw two of the games decided by 2 points. One was in favor of the Horses and one against. Barnwell will need the fans to come out and support these girls as they try to finish strong and secure a good playoff seed.

Barnwell head coach Kames Furtick was asked about her team’s win over Hampton County last week and said, “The girls had an amazing win during our Pink Out game against Wade Hampton. The girls were seeing the results of all the hard work we’ve been putting in at practice. Everyone played their part, and it really showed!”

Now, the Lady Warhorses are gearing up for their last few region matches. “We are hoping to keep this momentum going and bring home another couple of wins to add to our good start,” said Coach Furtick.

Come support these young ladies as they look to end the regular season with a few more region wins and get ready for the post season. The top three seeds from Region 5-AA will secure a first round home match for the playoffs. Come cheer for your Barnwell volleyball team!
