HILDA - Willie David Hartzog, age 79, of Hilda, South Carolina passed away at his home on March 7, 2025.

David was born on March 12, 1945 to the late George Wesley Hartzog and Dorothy Lyons Hartzog.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean Still Hartzog; son, Kendall David (Patti) Hartzog; daughter, Stephanie Kristine (Chad) Creech; grandchildren Emma Creech, Liam Creech, Braxton Youngblood, Sher Youngblood, Margo Hartzog, and Toby Hartzog, all of Barnwell, South Carolina; brother, Wesley Hartzog; sister, Sandra (James) Fogle of Hilda, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Janice Hartzog; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Vince and Linda Winegardner of Davidson, North Carolina; brother-in-law, Skip Wilson of Chapin, South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Pat Hartzog, sister Judy Wilson, great nephew Gary Cheek, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ruben and Margaret Still.

David dearly loved his family. He loved being outdoors and taught his children and grandchildren the love of outdoors, especially fishing. David retired from Wackenhut Security at Savannah River Site, although he spent most of his life farming at Hartzog Farms. He loved being on his tractor and backhoe whether at home or helping others.

David graduated from Blackville-Hilda High School in 1964. He was one of the founding members of the Hilda Fire Department and served as a volunteer as long as his health permitted. He was a member of Hilda Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and a member of Woodsmen of the World. He was a member of Barnwell National Guard Company B 122nd Engineer Battalion. He attended Mount Lebanon Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 at Mount Lebanon Christian Church at 3 p.m. with the Reverand Ron Franklin and Reverand Tim Gunnels officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites accorded. Visitation was held on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Mole Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m.
