A Williston man is dead following a traffic accident in Aiken County.
The wreck occurred on Wednesday, June 5 around 1:40 p.m. on Highway 78/Charleston Highway near Clippership Loop, approximately two miles east of Montmorenci, said Lance Corporal Brittany Glover with the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP).
“The driver of a 2013 Ford Escape was traveling west on Charleston Highway when it crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 2006 Chevrolet Malibu head-on. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 46-year-old Brian Corley (of Williston) was transported to Wellstar MCG (in Augusta, Ga.) where he succumbed to his injuries at 3:53 p.m.,” said Aiken County Coroner Darryl M. Ables.
The driver of the Ford Escape was also transported to the hospital for their injuries, said Ables.
There were no passengers in either vehicle, said Glover.
An autopsy will be performed in Newberry, said Ables.
The coroner’s office and SCHP are continuing with the investigation.
