Blue Devils advance to District Championship game

Posted

The Williston-Elko Blue Devils hosted the Bengals from Brashier Middle College Charter School in Simpsonville on Monday, May 6.

At stake was a trip to the District Championship game. Williston-Elko played a clutch game to secure the 15-5 victory and earn a trip to face the Wolverines from Whitmire High School.

“Our win over Brashier Middle College sends us to the District Championship game for a second straight year. I’yana Robinson shined for us in the circle pitching 6 innings, recording 4 strikeouts, and getting the win. Key hitters were Gracyn Williams who went 2-3 with 3 RBIs, Hailey O’Neal was 2-3 with 3 RBIs, and Tatum Miller who was 2-4 with 3 RBIs, including the walk off game winner in the bottom of the 6th,” said Williston-Elko head coach Jamie Wootten.

Coach Wootten went on to say, “I thought our girls played one of their all-around best games of the season. We gave up some hits and runs early but then I’yana settled in and took control of the game. Our defense played well behind her, especially shortstop Tra’Niya Josey who turned a big double play in the second inning to limit some potential early damage. Offensively, we just kept attacking and adding runs each inning. I am really proud of the girls for putting the game away late.”

As they prepare for the District Championship, Wootten said, “We’ve got a tall task in front of us Wednesday. We’ve got to win two from Whitmire in front of what will be the largest crowd we’ve ever played in front of, but it should be a fun night and our girls are looking forward to the rematch.”

We wish Coach Wootten and the Williston-Elko Blue Devil softball team the best of luck at the District Championship! Go Devils!
