BARNWELL - Betty A. Weis, 94, of Barnwell, South Carolina went to be with Jesus quietly at 9:31 a.m. Wednesday morning, November 4th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and church members.

Betty was born on June 25th, 1932, in Louisville, KY, and was raised by the late Samuel and Ina Marcum Pate. She received her GED from DuPont Manual High School in 1950 before getting married and starting a family of her own. Betty worked for Burns International Security Services, where she met her husband of 53 years, Bob Weis, while both were employed there. They were soon married in 1973. When Bob received employment at Chem Nuclear, they moved to Barnwell, choosing to live in Boiling Springs.

Throughout her time here, Betty actively helped several families as a caregiver for their loved ones; she was a blessing to many. Betty was an active member of the Barnwell Lions Club along with her husband, and was a committed Christian as well as a steadfast member of Christ Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed McDonald’s Bingo, visiting the homes of friends, and playing cards. In church she was always giving and receiving the most wonderful hugs to all she knew, those hugs will surely be missed with her passing. She was a caring and kind person to all who knew her, and she will be sorely missed by the loving membership of Boiling Springs Presbyterian Chapel and Christ Presbyterian Church in Barnwell; along with her many friends and neighbors. She loved her pets, especially her two chihuahuas’ Boots and Buddy; they will truly miss their mama. She will always be known as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Betty is preceded in death by her son, Sidney “Snoopy” Gillespie, as well as her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Weis of the home and her three children, Debbie Majak (William) Edmondson of Taylorsville, KY, Diane Young of Tifton, GA, and Warren Wichmann, as well as five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Her husband Bob would like to thank the loving and caring help from Low Country Health Care System and Amedisys Hospice Care in these last months. Especially Dr. Boyles, Landria, Cierra, Dawn, and Kayla.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 8th, 2026, at Christ Presbyterian Church from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. with her celebration service starting at 3 p.m. At Betty’s request, she will be interred at Boiling Springs Presbyterian Chapel Cemetery.

The family requests that any memorial contributions that may be made in her memory go to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or to the Christ Presbyterian Church, 848 Hagood Ave., Barnwell, S.C. 29812.
