Our beloved baby boy, Melvin Harvey “Ducky” Gunnells, infant son of Angelica Crane and Wesley Gunnells, was born at 20 weeks on September 27, 2026, at Well Star in Augusta, GA. He lived for three precious hours, entering this world surrounded by the loving embrace of his mother’s arms. In those sacred moments, he knew only warmth, protections, and a love deeper than words.
Although his time on earth was brief, Ducky touched countless hearts. His sisters, Fayelin Rose Crane (age 8 years), Ryleigh Anne-Faith Cook (age 7 years), and Paizley Lynn Gunnells (age 10 years) welcomed him with joy and a tenderness. Fayelin’s words captured the loved surrounding him, “I have waited years for a brother, and he is just too perfect . . . just too perfect. He is God’s angel.” Ducky will forever be their cherished little brother, held close in memory and spirit.
He is deeply loved by his maternal grandparents, Kimberly Love and Daniel (DJ) Crane Jr.; and by his paternal grandparents, Melvin (April) Gunnells and Melissa Waltz (Doug Hiers). Their hopes, dreams, and love for him will remain everlasting.
Ducky’s circle of love continues with his uncles, Austin Gunnells, Danny Crane, Seth Crane, and Aden Crane; his aunts, Fawn Crane (Logan Smith) and Kaleigh Crane, all of whom will forever carry him in their hearts.
He is also survived by his maternal great-grandmother, Georgia Sunday; and paternal great-grandparents, Leland (Dru) Waltz who keeps him close in prayer and remembrance.
Ducky’s cousins, Oriean Smith, and Avery Smith, Tatum Smith are part of the family who awaited him with excitement and love and who will forever honor his memory.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandfathers, Daniel Crane Sr., Fawn Crane, and Robert Love Jr. as well as his step great-grandfather, Harvey Sunday Jr. He is also preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents, Marie Waltz, Melvin and Betty Gunnells. Their spirits now welcome him with open arms.
Though his life lasted on hours, Melvin Harvey “Ducky” Gunnells left an impact that will endure for generations. He was a gift, pure, innocent, and deeply treasured. His tiny footprints will remain forever on the hearts of all who loved him. Though he has returned to God’s embrace, his spirit continues to shine through the love of his family.
Rest peacefully, sweet Ducky. You were perfect, and you will always be loved beyond measure.
